Family and friends attended a funeral service for Linda Kay Sweezer, 64, of Kent, on Monday at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church in Flint, Mich., where she grew up.
Sweezer was killed Oct. 22 in her Kent home on the East Hill. The Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office charged Lance Rougeau, 25, on Oct. 30 with first-degree murder.
The Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home posted Sweezer’s obituary on its website at dodds-dumanois.com.
Sweezer was born Jan. 18, 1953 in Niles, Mich., to Elder Willie Mae Bacon and the late Deacon Louis Franklin Bacon, according to her obituary. She graduated in 1971 from Flint Northern High School and attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where she received her bachelor degree in business administration.
She moved to Seattle where she married Larry Sweezer, then moved to Kent. She was employed at Providence Health & Services. She was a very active member at New Beginnings Christian Fellowship in Kent, where she served faithfully on the feeding and clothing program. Sweezer also served on the Kent Black Action Commission.
Survivors include her children, Lance and Sonya Sweezer, granddaughter and apple of her eye, Sophia Lauren Sweezer, mother Elder Willie Mae Bacon, sister Lue Vercy Jones, special brother-in-law Pastor Veotis Jones, aunt Lillie Jernigan, special cousin Zarine Bacon-Harris of Powder Springs, Ga., uncle Timothy Shaw, niece Tina Jones of Killeen, Texas, best friend Sherry Richardson of Flint, special friend Gwen Allen-Carston of Kent and many other cousins, family and friends.
