The construction of new senior living apartment complexes in Kent continues to boom.
Treeo Senior Living plans to build a 140-unit, three-story facility on a 5-acre site at the northwest corner of 124th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 304th Street, according to a recently filed city permit application.
“This area is an island of Kent completely surrounded by the city of Auburn, approved in 2004 as the Verdana Planned Unit Development of 100-plus acres which allows not only single-family residential but also a commercial component,” said city planner Sharon Clamp about what is known as The Bridges community.
This marks the third senior living facility planned for Kent over the next year or so.
The 253-unit, six-story Reserve at Kent will start to go up next year at 623 W. Meeker St., in a vacant field behind KeyBank. Plans are also underway by Legacy Affordable Retirement Communities (LARC) to build a three-story, 131-unit senior apartment complex at a vacant, triangular-shaped lot at 1001 First Ave. N.. The property sits just north of the North Park neighborhood and southeast of Highway 167. Construction could start later this summer.
The Treeo retirement complex is designed to be 125,430 square feet. Treeo is part of One Eighty Holdings, a hospitality specialist based in Seattle. Treeo was conceived, designed and built from the ground up by One Eighty. And the first Treeo location is now open in Orem, Utah.
All Treeos are managed and operated by Leisure Care, which specializes in operating retirement properties in North America. Leisure Care has facilities in 11 states, Mexico and Canada. Its 11 locations in Washington are in Federal Way, Bellevue, Seattle, Everett, Bothell, Lynnwood, Woodinville, Redmond, Spokane, Kennewick and Vancouver.

Hoyt Scott, a vice president of real estate development with One Eighty, didn’t return emails from the Kent Reporter for comments about the planned Treeo facility on the East Hill.
The city recently issued a grading permit for the Legacy senior living project in North Park to clear and grade the site, but other permits have not yet been issued, Clamp said. Legacy has a facility in Olympia.
California developer AVS Communities is behind the six-story downtown project. AVS has senior housing complexes in Renton and Everett with planned projects in Auburn, SeaTac, Lynnwood, Tumwater, Lacey and Sequim.
