People who want to live in a Kent retirement community are going to have yet another choice in a couple of years.
Oregon-based Holiday Retirement plans to build a 127-unit, three-story independent senior living facility at 25035 104th Ave. SE, according to conditional use permits filed with the city for the 4-acre site.
“We hope to break ground the middle of this year,” said a Holiday of Kent spokesman, who asked that his name not be published. “Our goal is to open in the third quarter of 2018.”
Holiday of Kent is the fourth senior living complex planned in the city over the next year or so.
“Our consultant recommended Kent based on market studies that show it as a nice community with a base of seniors who will benefit from a state-of-the-art facility,” the spokesman said.
The company didn’t have any concerns about other senior living facilities opening in Kent on a similar timeline.
“Some of the others include higher levels of care,” the spokesman said. “Ours is like any apartment building, but it will have a dining area and serve three meals a day. But there will be no health care or assisted living. It’s intended for seniors who do not want to remain in their current residence.”
Holiday has more than 300 facilities in 43 states. Holiday’s headquarters are in Lake Oswego, just outside of Portland.
It has 16 senior living facilities in Washington.
The Kent complex will include laundry and fitness facilities and 78 parking spaces. Traffic access to the site will be from 104th Avenue Southeast.
Other senior living facilities coming to town include:
• Legacy Affordable Retirement Communities (LARC), a three-story, 131-unit senior apartment complex at 1001 First Ave. N. The property sits just north of the North Park neighborhood and southeast of Highway 167.
• The Reserve at Kent, a six-story downtown building with 252 units at 623 W. Meeker St., by California developer AVS Communities.
• Treeo senior living, a 140-unit, three-story facility at the northwest corner of 124th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 304th Street.
