A driver of a semi pulling two trailers lost control at about 3 a.m. Wednesday, March 30 on northbound Interstate 5 in Kent and caused a major traffic backup after taking out about 25 sections of guardrail, including 100 posts.
“Somehow the truck jackknifed and took out a lot of guardrail,” Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson said in an email.
Johnson said there was no impairment to the driver and he sustained only minor injuries if any at all. No other vehicles were involved.
“I am not sure if the roadway was wet at the time,” Johnson said.
Lengthy delays continued all morning for commuters as crews had to remove the semi and then closed two right lanes near State Route 516 to repair the guardrail.
