A 31-year-old Seattle man received a 38-year prison sentence for a 2021 fatal shooting of a man in Kent over a road-rage incident.
King County Superior Court Judge Paul M. Crisalli sentenced Marcus Bradley Williams May 31 at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent to the high end of the standard range, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors requested the 38-year sentence.
A jury in April found Williams guilty for second-degree murder with a firearm enhancement for the Jan. 7, 2021 killing of Jovan A. Satterwhite, 41. He also was found guilty of two counts of drive-by shooting and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm in two other incidents during the same month he shot Satterwhite.
“Each of these incidents involved deadly (or potentially deadly) violence unleashed by the defendant on total strangers with no or minimal provocation,” according to a statement from the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
At the time of sentencing, the court heard directly from Satterwhite’s family and friends, as well as his fiancé.
As of June 5, Williams remained in the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle. He will be transferred to the state Department of Corrections and receive credit for time served in the county jail. The judge ordered three years of community custody after his prison release.
In 2021, Kent Police found Satterwhite dead with a gunshot wound to his left temple inside a 1986 Buick Regal in the 23500 block of 88th Avenue South. The car was still running and parked off the roadway in some landscaping. Satterwhite, who was in the driver’s seat, died of two gunshot wounds in the late-night attack, according to court documents.
Detectives used video surveillance, cellphone records and witness interviews to tie Williams to the shooting, according to charging papers. He apparently became upset that Satterwhite’s vehicle cut him off in traffic. He followed Satterwhite’s car after the incident and saw it stopped near the Central Flats Apartments in Kent.
Williams, driving a silver Mazda 3, fired three shots at the vehicle and sped off at a high rate of speed northbound on 88th Avenue South.
Detectives learned in early February 2021 that Williams was out on bail for a hit-and-run felony death in 2019 in Seattle and a first-degree robbery in 2019 in Seattle. He also had convictions for second-degree robbery and third-degree assault.
Detectives discovered that Williams was hit by a DUI driver on Jan. 8, 2021 in Seattle, the day after the Kent killing. Williams was driving a 2017 silver Mazda 3. Seattle Police body-worn camera footage shows the Mazda was consistent with the vehicle seen fleeing the scene in Kent on video surveillance. GPS records for the cellphone of Williams put him near the Central Flats Apartments at the time of Satterwhite’s murder.
A picture on the cellphone of Williams showed him in possession of two semi-automatic handguns about 13 minutes prior to the shooting of Satterwhite.
Kent detectives assisted King County Sheriff’s Office detectives in arresting Williams on Feb. 5, 2021. Williams declined to speak to detectives after his arrest.
In addition to murder, Williams was sentenced for a Jan. 6, 2021 drive-by shooting at Othello Park in Seattle when he and a friend fired 28 shots at a car with two occupants, who were strangers to them, according to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Nobody was injured.
He also was sentenced for a Jan. 23, 2021 drive-by shooting when he fired shots at a vehicle that had collided with his vehicle.
