As a seventh-grader at Mill Creek Middle School, I understand your point of view about my school (“Bullying, fights plaguing school,” Kent Reporter, May 9), but we are not as bad as you say.
Yes, we have bullies, but you know why? Because most of those people are probably being abused at home. They may be suicidal or self-harming, and they want people to feel their pain.
Bullies are just people who are insecure about themselves, so they want to make others feel the same way. Sure, Mill Creek isn’t as welcoming as some of the other schools. But as soon as you meet some of the teachers, you feel at home. Well, that’s how I feel.
Yes, we have lots of fights, but that’s why we have an amazing security guard named Mr. Fuller. Not only is he strong and tough, but he’s friends with a lot of us students. He’s kind, nice, trustworthy and helpful. Some of us kids are very close to him.
In my opinion, our principal picked the right teachers to hire. We have amazing teachers. We have amazing counselors. They make it a safe place for us.
From my point of view, Mill Creek Middle School is not a school full of thugs. At my school, most of the kids are there for each other, and the teachers are there to support us.
I don’t appreciate you guys saying that my school is full of thugs and stuff. Maybe it’s not the safest place but at least the kids who need support get it at Mill Creek.
