Calista Webb, a senior at Kentlake High School, is the Kent Rotary Club Student of the Month.

Webb shines in culinary arts, not only in the classroom but in the working world as she caters jobs. She has participated in other hands-on experiences, including the ProStart culinary competition team that placed fourth at state last year.

Webb mentors first-year students in the culinary arts program. She also interns at Wild Wheat Bakery in downtown Kent and at the Pie Lab near Trader Joe’s.

In her spare time, she enjoys gymnastics, track and soccer and performing in plays through the drama department. She plans to attend Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island to study baking and business.

Kentridge students awarded

Kentridge High School students Isaac Appleby-Hall, Amanda Nee and Ammara Touch have been awarded prestigious Pacific Lutheran University President’s Scholarships, each worth $26,000 a year – along with the opportunity to earn more.

PLU offers a number of merit scholarships to recognize academic achievement, leadership and service, as well as the promise of continued success in these areas as a PLU student. The Presidential Scholarships are renewable for three additional years of undergraduate study.

More than 500 incoming first-year students apply for Presidential Scholarships each year, and the standards are high: Students who have demonstrated significant leadership and service and have achieved a 3.8-plus GPA or 1310-plus SAT (math and evidence-based reading and writing scores) or 28-plus ACT are eligible to apply.

For the 2017-18 academic year, 126 President’s Scholars were selected.
