Several regional rope rescue teams rescued a woman who fell approximately 60 feet from a trail above the Green River on Thursday afternoon, the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority reported.
The woman, who suffered only minor injuries, was with another person when she slipped off the trail that runs under the Kummer Bridge, 36800 Enumclaw-Black Diamond Road SE. Fortunately, the woman did not fall all the way to the water, Puget Sound Fire said.
Crews were brought to the bridge at 4:30 p.m. after reports of a woman in trouble. When firefighters arrived, they found a man on the bridge who led them to the patient. The woman was able to talk to first responders when they called down to her. The first team to rappel to her confirmed that she had no life-threatening injuries, Puget Sound Fire said.
It took rescue teams approximately an hour to get the patient back up to the trail, using a hoisting system due to the heavy brush and trees growing on the hillside. More than 10 technical rescue firefighters were part of the effort, Puget Sound Fire said.
King County Medic One evaluated the woman, and an ambulance transported her to a local hospital.
This was the second rescue in recent days at the bridge. On Tuesday, two teens and two adults fell from the trail in the same area. Those four also suffered only minor injuries, but had to be brought back to the trail by firefighters using a hoisting system, according to Puget Sound Fire.
In addition to Enumclaw Fire and King County Medic One, the following departments assisted in the rescue: Maple Valley Fire; Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority; Renton RFA; Valley RFA; the King County Sheriff’s Office; and Washington State Patrol.
