Congresswoman Kim Schrier, D-WA (Eighth District), released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives voted Thursday for a transparent path forward on the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump:
“Today’s vote lays out the next steps and lets the American people know what they can expect going forward, including public hearings and underlying evidence. What we’ve seen thus far suggests that our President abused the power of his office for personal gain and put himself above the law. I have said all along that we all deserve to know what happened. I am glad to see we are moving forward in a fair, transparent way. No one is above the law.”
The inquiry stems from the contention that Trump allegedly tried to pressure Ukraine into investigating unsubstantiated corruption claims against his political rival, Joe Biden, and his son who worked with a Ukrainian gas company.
