The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Kent holds its annual Team Kickoff at the Kent Senior Activity Center from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23.

The meeting at the center, 600 E. Smith St., is open to anyone who has been on a relay team or would like to know more about the Kent Relay. Included will be information about the 2014 season, how teams can register for the event, and the announcement of this year’s theme. If you or someone you know is a cancer Survivor, please attend as all survivors will be recognized.

Relay For Life of Kent is the No. 1 relay in South King County and has raised $2.6 million in the last 15 years. In 2013, 66 teams raised more than $150,000.

During months leading up the event, teams are formed to raise money to fight cancer. In addition, Relay For Life enables a community to come together to celebrate those who have survived cancer, support those who are fighting it, and remember those who have been lost.

Team meetings are held on a monthly basis at the senior center from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Meetings also are scheduled for Feb. 20, March 27, April 24 and May 22.

This year’s Relay For Life of Kent is May 30-31 at Kent-Meridian High School’s French Field. During the first lap on Friday at 6 p.m., cancer survivors throughout the community are invited to join to celebrate, remember, and fight back.

Community sponsors include gold sponsors: Heritage Bank, Kent Lions Club, Kent School District, and Tim’s Cascade Snacks; silver sponsor: Seattle Thunderbirds Community Sports Foundation; and bronze sponsors: Hagen Entertainment, Kent Reporter, and Safeguard Self Storage.

To become a community sponsor, contact Lance Goodwin at lgoodwin@RFLKent.org or 253-740-2363.
