A regional law enforcement rally against domestic violence is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.
Police officers from Kent, the King County Sheriff’s Office, Auburn, Federal Way and other South King County agencies will gather along with State Attorney General Rob McKenna and representatives from the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The event, sponsored by the Auburn Domestic Violence Task Force, will join law enforcement, domestic violence advocates, treatment providers, survivors and citizens to rally against domestic violence.
The rally will move from the outside steps to the third floor rotunda in the event of inclement weather.
McKenna, Kent Police Chief Steve Strachan and the Domestic Violent Unit of the prosecutor’s office will attend the rally.
Speakers will address the efforts of law enforcement and the daily battle against the preventable harm of domestic violence, the progress made in the 30-plus years of domestic violence legislation and the continuing issues that must be addressed.
A line of patrol cars from several South King County agencies will park on the large sidewalk in front of the entrance. Their attending officers will be present and ready to display the purple ribbon in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
At the rally, the DV Unit of the prosecutor’s office will present the 13th annual Norm Maleng Law Enforcement Award to three outstanding officers in recognition of their efforts to combat domestic violence.
