Rainier Youth Choirs presents ‘Amazing Race’ Summer Day Camp

Inspired by the CBS show "Amazing Race," this year's Rainier Youth Choirs summer camp Aug. 15-18 explores Japan, France, Russia, Italy, Scotland and Africa with interesting team challenges as part of the fun.

Inspired by the CBS show “Amazing Race,” this year’s Rainier Youth Choirs summer camp Aug. 15-18 explores Japan, France, Russia, Italy, Scotland and Africa with interesting team challenges as part of the fun.

Dress-up days, crafts, movement, drama/theater and percussion activities and lots of singing will fill the schedule each day. Lunch, snacks, materials and T-shirts are included.

The camp staff includes eight choral directors, all with advanced degrees and decades of teaching experience. Returning staff members include Brian Hoskins, Matt Garcia, Karen Martin, Karen Fulmer and Leora Schwitters. Joining for the first time this year: Bella Voce’s new director, Amy Ballard, Bonney Lake High School; guest conductor Josh Viles, Hazen High School; and Jennifer Ayre, former Kent-Meridian High School choir director. RYC’s high school Consonare singers will be assisting as counselors and singing along with campers in age-appropriate groups.

The camp is for youth in grades 3-9 from Kent, Auburn, Renton, Maple Valley and surrounding communities.

Camp is at New Hope Presbyterian, at 19800 – 108th Ave. SE, Kent.

Instruction goes from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. A free concert begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 showcases the week’s accomplishments.
