Rain in Kent causes street closures, water over roadways | Update

Portions of James Street; East George Street; 81st Avenue South; 148th Avenue SE closed Monday

The constant rain has caused the closure of several Kent streets, curb-lane closures on other roads and water over the roadway that drivers need to be careful when driving through.

All closures are due to the heavy rain that started Sunday, Feb. 27 and has continued Monday, Feb. 28.

Here’s the latest, as of 5:20 p.m. Feb. 28, from the City of Kent Public Works Department:

Road closures

• James St is closed between Central Ave N and 94th Ave S

• E George St is closed at Central Ave N

• 148th Ave SE between SE 256th St and SE 249th St

• 81st Ave S between S 196th St and S 198th St

Traffic advisory

• Eastbound curb lane closure on S 180th St between 80th Ave S and E Valley Hwy

• Eastbound curb lane closure of S 196th St between 80th Ave S and 84th Ave S

• Eastbound curb lanes closed on E James St between Central Ave N and Woodford Ave N

• West and Eastbound curb lanes closed on James St between Washington Ave N and Lincoln Ave N under the Highway 167 overpass

Water over roadway

• SE 256th St and 148th Ave SE

• 141st Ave SE and SE 276th St

• SE 223rd Dr between 116th Ave SE and 120th Ave SE

• 144th Ave SE between SE 279th Pl and SE 282nd St
