King County prosecutors have charged a 29-year-old Kent man with second-degree attempted child rape after he allegedly agreed to have sex with a 13-year-old girl in response to his Internet advertisement seeking a mother-daughter threesome for sex.
Seattle Police arrested Paul W. Vergon Feb. 3 in SeaTac as part of an Internet sting operation after he reportedly showed up to meet the girl for a sexual encounter.
An undercover Seattle Police detective posed online as the father of a fictitious 13-year-old girl as part of the department’s Internet Crime Against Children’s Unit, according to charging papers filed Feb. 7.
Vergon is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Feb. 16 at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. He was in custody for four days before posting bond Feb. 7 on $25,000 bail.
“The defendant is a danger to children given the circumstances of this crime where he tried to meet with a 13-year-old girl in order to have sex with her,” wrote senior deputy prosecutor Corinn Bohn in charging papers. “The defendant’s intentions were clear from his e-mail correspondence and he admitted to the detective that he intended to have sex with the girl.”
An undercover detective spotted an ad Jan. 31 on a Web site from a man that read, “Seeking Unusual Threesome.” The detective responded to the ad because of concern that the man might be seeking a young girl. The detective posed as the father of a young daughter.
Vergon responded and asked for the age and pictures of the girl. The detective answered that he had a 13-year-old daughter who liked sex with older men, according to charging papers.
That began numerous e-mail exchanges and led to a face-to-face meeting Feb. 2 between the undercover detective (posing as the father) and Vergon. Vergon allegedly told the detective he had no problem with the age of the girl. They met to set up details of a Feb. 3 meeting of Vergon with the girl.
Police arrested Vergon after he showed up at the predetermined meeting location and exited his vehicle. He was placed into custody without incident. A police search found that Vergon had a dozen condoms with him.
Vergon told detectives he would have engaged in sex if a real 13-year-old girl had been at the location.
