Providence ElderPlace-Full Life – an innovative program that serves frail seniors in the community – recently celebrated its first anniversary.
Providence ElderPlace joined Full Life Care to expand its Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) to Kent. The partnership offers medical care and social services to seniors who wish to continue to live in the community, thus avoiding or minimizing stays in hospitals and nursing homes.
The new program opened June 1, 2013.
Providence ElderPlace – Full Life, at 7829 S. 180th St., in Kent, is the third PACE center in King County. The center was made possible through a partnership with Full Life Care, an innovative leader in adult day health care for the past 30 years. The addition of the Providence ElderPlace-Full Life site enables expansion of Providence ElderPlace’s service area to include Federal Way, Auburn, Maple Valley and Covington.
The partnership began with 54 participants more than a year ago and has grown to more than 100 participants in the first year.
“There is incredible demand in south King County for our services,” said site manager Brian Osborn. “Opening this site put us in a position to serve south end residents in living independently, with family, in assisted living facilities or in adult family homes. We provide outstanding health care that enables people to live in the community instead of in nursing homes.”
The program benefits frail seniors who otherwise would qualify to live in a nursing home. But because the program provides medical care and socialization, seniors are able to stay in less restrictive and more affordable living environments. When they go to the center, they not only get the socialization of being in an adult day center, but also benefit from seeing the on-site geriatrician, physical therapist, occupational therapist, nurse, social worker, recreational therapists, chaplain, etc.
