Kent Police reported residents are receiving scam phone calls threatening legal action with a caller ID as City of Kent.
A prerecorded message states to press 1 to connect with an agent, according to police.
“This call is not coming from the city,” according to a Oct. 18 police statement. “The scammers are using technology to mask their true caller ID. The prerecorded message telling you to hit 1 to speak to an agent is likely leading you to a scam artist who will threaten or manipulate you to get your money.”
Police recommend if you receive one of these calls, hang up. Do not speak to an agent.
Police said elderly people are particularly vulnerable to these types of phone scams, which often target landlines. Police are asking residents to inform your elderly neighbors and family to not engage these calls.

If you have received this call and spoke to a scammer after hitting 1 to speak to an agent, report the incident to Kent Police at 253-852-2121.
