Obstruction of an officer

Kent arrested a 38-year-old man for investigation of obstruction of a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of vehicle prowl tools, following a March 21 pursuit that ended with a dog from the K-9 unit applying his teeth to the man’s behind.

The incident took place after the man tried to flee on a bicycle and then on foot from an officer at about 11:18 p.m. in the 21600 block of 84th Avenue South.

A patrol-car officer saw a man riding a bicycle without a helmet coming out of a business park and decided to pull the man over because of the time of night and previous car prowls and burglaries in that area, according to the police report.

When the officer stepped out of his car to talk to the man, the man started to pedal his bicycle faster to get away from the officer. The officer yelled at the man to stop, but he kept riding.

The man jumped off the bicycle when he came up to a fence and fled on foot with the officer chasing him on foot. The officer lost track of the man in a business park, but a K-9 unit dog found the man near a trailer about 20 minutes after the incident started.

The dog bit the man in the incident.

Officers searched the man and found in his possession a ceramic pipe as well as two filed-down keys often used to steal cars.

The man also had warrants for third-degree theft out of Tukwila as well as driving while license suspended out of Bellevue and King County.

Paramedics took the man to a local hospital where he was treated for dog bites to his stomach and butt before his release to officers.
