Kent Police are trying to sort out why one man shot another man in the leg at about 3:48 a.m. Friday at a home in the 1300 block of East Maple Street on Scenic Hill, just east of downtown.
A 39-year-old Kent man, who lives in the home, told police that it was a home invasion and the man was a burglar that he did not know, said Lisa Price, the Kent Police public information officer. The homeowner told officers he went to a bedroom to grab a shotgun and shot the man in the leg.
But the man who was shot, a 38-year-old Kent resident, told police the two had been out drinking together and they went to the man’s home on Scenic Hill. After they walked into the home, he said the homeowner came out of a bedroom with a gun and shot him in the leg in the living room.
The man then fled the home to a nearby house where a neighbor called 911 to report the shooting.
“We’re having a difficult time getting the truth,” Price said.
Police have not made any arrests in the case.
Paramedics took the man who was shot to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle to be treated for a gunshot wound to the leg, Price said. She said the wound did not appear to be life threatening.
Two shots were fired, but only one shot hit the man, Price said.
Detectives plan to interview both men again as well as search the house where the shooting occurred to try to figure out what happened, Price said.
