Police Blotter: Hooker says she chose Kent over Miami

Prostitution

Kent Police arrested a 23-year-old woman for investigation of prostitution loitering at about 1 p.m. Aug. 1 near South 240th Street and Pacific Highway South.

Police later discovered through a criminal background check that the woman has a history of prostitution-related arrests in five states and Washington, D.C.

An officer in an unmarked police car saw the woman as she walked northbound on the west side of Pacific Highway. The officer said the woman made eye contact with occupants of vehicles. The woman then talked to a man in a truck and walked over to meet him at a nearby gas station, according to the police report.

The woman entered the truck, but then left the vehicle after about two minutes. The officer received a report from dispatch that there had been a call of possible prostitution activity near South 240th Street and Pacific Highway.

When the officer approached the woman, she told him that she had just arrived here from Florida and had heard that the stretch of highway was a good place to work. She said she had a room in a nearby motel.

The woman told police she left the truck at the service station because the man had no money. She said she moved here from Miami after other women told her about Pacific Highway and Aurora Avenue (in North Seattle) as good places to work.

Attempted robbery

A man told police that three men reportedly attacked him in an attempt to get money while he was jogging at night July 28 in the 23400 block of Military Road South.

The man had cuts to his face, neck, arms and hands, according to the police report. Paramedics treated the man, but said the man did not need to be taken to a hospital.

Three men approached the jogger and told him to empty his pockets. The jogger told them he was out running and did not have anything in his pockets. The men reportedly knocked the man to the ground and started to punch and kick him.

The jogger managed to kick one or two of the men. The men, described as in their 20s or 30s, then fled on foot after a vehicle drove by the incident.
