Theft
A woman allegedly stole items from as many as three stores April 29 at an East Hill shopping center in the 26000 block of 104th Avenue South.
Kent Police arrested the woman for investigation of third-degree theft for reportedly stealing liver, cheese, lunch meat, tortilla chips and a jar of nacho cheese from a grocery store.
Employees from the store called 911 to report they had a woman in custody for leaving the store with items she did not purchase.
The woman told store employees, “I didn’t do anything. I didn’t steal nothing,” according to the police report.
Police also discovered the woman had underwear and sandals worth about $31 in her purse allegedly stolen from a nearby department store as well as beauty supplies worth about $37 reportedly taken from a neighboring beauty salon. Prosecutors will review whether to charge the woman with additional theft charges.
Assault
A Kent woman called police and told them her boyfriend knocked her to the floor and tried to choke her in a domestic dispute at 2:54 a.m. April 27 at an apartment in the 25200 block of 109th Place Southeast.
Kent Police arrested the man for investigation of fourth-degree assault and a felony violation of a no-contact order to stay away from the woman, according to the police report.
The woman told police that her boyfriend became upset when he claimed she had called a woman with whom the man had an ongoing affair.
During the tirade, the boyfriend reportedly threw the girlfriend on a bed and then grabbed her by the foot and dragged her outside the apartment. When the woman returned inside, the boyfriend knocked her to the floor, knelt over her and grabbed her around the neck.
The woman told police she did not lose breath while being choked. The officer reported that he saw red marks on the woman’s neck. The woman told police her boyfriend appeared to be high from taking oxycodone and drinking alcohol. The woman had obtained a no-contact order against the boyfriend for an alleged assault on April 16.
Attempted robbery
A man told police that another man had punched him in the face and tore a necklace from him April 28 in a parking lot at a bar in the 100 block of Central Avenue North.
The man said the bar had closed and he’d been walking toward his vehicle in the parking lot when another man allegedly punched him in the head and face and broke a necklace from his neck. He sustained a cut left eye. He also told police he had seen the other man in the bar but did not know him.
With a lack of suspect information, police closed the case.
Drugs
Kent bicycle officers pulled over a man at 4:54 p.m. April 28 in the 800 block of Third Avenue South for reportedly riding without a bicycle helmet and then discovered the man had a warrant for third-degree driving with a suspended license, as well finding a plastic bag of marijuana on him.
Police found the marijuana in his sweatsuit pocket. The man told officers he had purchased the pot from a friend in Renton.
