Kent Police have arrested two persons in connection to a shooting that left an 18-year old male victim seriously injured at Kent Station on Monday afternoon.

The investigation has revealed that the two subjects who were detained and arrested Monday on unrelated charges are now people of interest in the shooting, police said in a Tuesday news release. It appears the shooting is not random and is specific to those involved, police said.

On Monday, officers responded to a report of a shooting at Kent Station around 12:40 p.m. and found the victim inside a store with gunshot wounds to his arm and abdomen.

He was transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening but serious injuries.

A Kent Police K9 and officers responded to the scene to look for the suspects. During the K9 track, the two subjects were located and arrested based on warrants for their arrest.

Kent Mayor Dana Ralph posted a video on Facebook on Monday afternoon, saying “the people involved knew each other, and it was targeted. Our public is not at risk. Again, this is not a random event.”

James Street from Fourth Avenue to Central Ave was closed for a while while authorities processed the scene.

The investigation continues.

“Public safety remains a top priority as we continue to work with the city and Kent Station management,” police said in the release.

Kent Police are asking anyone with information to call 911, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or the Kent Police tip line at 253-856-5808.
