Trail users have been responding enthusiastically to an online survey – www.kentvalleylooptrail.com – for the proposed Kent Valley Loop Trail, a paved multi-use loop capitalizing on the intersection of both trails at Foster Park at south end of the city.

The survey ends at midnight, Aug. 25.

To get even more input, the city is inviting trail users to participate in a photo contest.

According to project manager Brian Levenhagen, “We want this to be a fun and interactive – with prizes for the best submissions, of course.  Kids and adults can showcase themselves and friends on their favorite parts of the Green River and Interurban Trails and even provide suggestions for what they would like to see added along the route.”

The contest will run through the month of October. Prizes will be awarded for:

  • Best cycling-related photo
  • Best non-cycling use of the trail
  • Best landscape / nature photo
  • Best shot taken by a youngster under 14 and
  • Best “as-is” shot accompanied by a suggestion for improvement

A panel of judges will select the winning entries.  The city would like to thank Peter De Lory, nationally recognized landscape photographer, represented by Lisa Harris Gallery in Seattle, and Ellen Sollod, public artist whose work includes “In the Grove” for Morrill Meadows Park in Kent, for agreeing to serve as judges.

Prizes have been donated by local companies with broad appeal to recreation enthusiasts, including Reber Ranch, Starbucks, REI and Pacific Plants.
