Maintenance work by King County continues along a dozen miles of levees that protect the cities of Renton, Tukwila and Kent from Green River flooding. This work will require temporary, intermittent closures of sections of the Green River Trail, which sits atop the levee system through the Green River Valley.
Upcoming closures:
• July 20-25: The trail will be closed each day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. from its intersection at Minkler Boulevard at the Tukwila Public Works Shop to the trail access lot immediately north of South 180th Street.
• Additionally, the trail segment between State Route 181 and the trail bridge south of South 180th Street is closed by the city of Kent and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for levee reconstruction.
Trail users are encouraged to sign up for weekly updates or follow #GreenRiverTrail @KCDNRP on Twitter and “like” the King County Rivers Facebook page for current and upcoming closure schedule.
King County crews are repairing damaged portions of levees, replacing stormwater infrastructure, removing stumps, hedges and debris, and performing other needed maintenance work. Maintenance is required to improve levee integrity and allow safety inspections of the levees.
Trail closures will occur in various locations and for times ranging from one day to as long as a few weeks, and the work will continue into 2016. General notification signs will be posted at major trail access points and trail closure signs will be posted at either end of active work areas.
