A woman pedestrian in her 50s suffered a large and deep cut to her nose after a collision with school bus side mirror about 4 p.m. Monday in Kent at the intersection of East Smith Street and Jason Avenue.
Officers learned that the Kent School District bus was making a left turn from northbound Titus Street onto westbound Smith Street, according to a Wednesday email from Kent Police Cmdr. Robert Hollis.
The Kent woman was walking in the crosswalk from north to south when the bus collided with her in the westbound lanes of travel on Smith Street.
“It appeared the bus’ large driver’s side mirror struck the pedestrian causing a large/deep laceration to her nose,” Hollis said.
Paramedics transported the woman to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle as a precaution, Hollis said. She was awake and alert and provided a statement to the officers on the scene.
The bus had two students on board. The bus driver was a woman in her 60s, Hollis said.
“The traffic unit will continue to investigate this incident to determine fault,” he said.
