A 61-year-old Des Moines pedestrian was killed in Kent after reportedly crossing Pacific Highway South, but not in a crosswalk, late Friday night, Oct. 25 and being struck by a vehicle.
Ronald Paul Bigelow died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office Oct. 28 media report.
Officers and Puget Sound Fire personnel were dispatched at about 10:28 p.m. to the 26600 block of Pacific Highway S., regarding a fatal crash involving a pedestrian, according to an Oct. 26 Kent Police news release.
Officers discovered Bigelow lying in the roadway deceased. The initial investigation indicates that Bigelow was crossing the roadway, but not in a crosswalk, according to police. A northbound vehicle struck Bigelow, causing him to fall. A second northbound vehicle also struck the man.
Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to police, and it does not appear that driver intoxication was a contributing factor.
Police collected evidence and statements to try to determine the circumstances that led up to the collision.
