Division Chief Pat Pawlak will become the new Puget Sound Fire public information officer when Capt. Joe Root retires at the end of the year.
Pawlak has been with Puget Sound Fire (previously the Kent Fire Department) for 36 years. He is a division chief that oversees Facilities and Property Management. He served as the agency’s public information officer from September 1999 until May 2004.
Root has been the public information officer since June 2019. He has worked with the department for more than 30 years and has served as a firefighter, engineer, engine company officer, hazardous materials response team captain and as a code enforcement officer.
Root replaced Kyle Ohashi, who worked as public information officer for 15 years prior to retiring after 30 years with the department.
Kent-based Puget Sound Fire, aka Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, serves the cities of Kent, Covington, Maple Valley and SeaTac.
