Two residents were displaced when oil heating on a stove caused a fire that heavily damaged a condominium at about 7:55 p.m. Saturday in the 11300 block of Southeast 209th Street in the Panther Lake area of unincorporated Kent.
The two residents of the condo escaped safely. There were no injuries.
The fire spread from the stove into the kitchen cabinets and into a kitchen wall despite efforts by the owner of the condo to fight the flames with a fire extinguisher, according to a Kent Fire Department media release.
Both floors of the condo sustained fire damage as the flames went up the kitchen wall to the second floor.
Firefighters from Kent and Renton were able to contain the fire to the one unit, but an adjacent condo sustained a small amount of water damage.
The American Red Cross helped the residents to find temporary housing.
