I’m pleased to share good news with you – President Obama recently signed legislation that funds improvements to strengthen the Howard Hanson Dam, reducing the risk of flooding to the Green River Valley. The funding allows the dam’s operator, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to complete repairs by the 2011/2012 flood season.

Kent Police arrested a 29-year-old Renton man for investigation of vehicular assault in connection with a T-bone collision Wednesday morning on Kent's East Hill that critically injured his passenger, a 27-year-old Renton man.
A 31-year-old Renton man pleaded not guilty Sept. 8 to two counts of vehicular homicide in connection with the deaths of two Des Moines women Aug. 24 in a three-car accident in Kent.

Kent Police arrested a 33-year-old man for investigation of telephone harassment after he reportedly sent 56 text messages and left six voice mails to a former girlfriend's cell phone over a seven-hour period on Aug. 20.
The man also allegedly called the 25-year-old woman's house phone eight times in four hours earlier in the day, according to the police report.
Kent artist Danny Pierce was just 4 years old when he saw a magazine photo of a cow that he wanted to trace.
Pierce's cousin, however, had other ideas.
"I wanted to trace it but he wouldn't let me," Pierce said. "I drew it. That started it."
That cow drawing at his Woodlake, Calif., home helped launch Pierce's lifelong career as an artist and art instructor. He created a legacy of nationally recognized work, being recognized by the Washington Post in 1958 as "...of America's most outstanding graphic artists."
Kent Police arrested a man in his 40s for investigation of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree assault and attempted arson after he held a woman hostage at knifepoint and threatened to set himself and the woman on fire.
The incident occurred at about 2:07 p.m. Friday at the Arbor Chase Apartments at 64th Avenue South and West Smith Street in the Kent Valley, according to a Kent Police media release.
