Kent Predators build up Indoor Football League roster

It didn't take long for Keith Evans to start tracking down several of his former players after the Kent Predators hired him this month as coach. Evans has signed at least four players who played under him last year in Wenatchee to join Kent's Indoor Football League team, which is now in its second year. Area residents were treated to a beautiful sky show these past couple of days, around the majesty of Mount Rainier. Thanks to lots of moist air moving over the mountains, a series of what are called "lenticular" clouds formed, creating a dramatic skyscape looking more painted than real.

A fundraising dinner in December for Kent's Lucy Lopez Center raised nearly $3,000 - something for which Roberto Gonzales, a cofounder of the center, is thankful. "It went wonderful," said Gonzales, seated last month in a booth at his Mexico Lindo restaurant in Kent, and recalling the Dec. 5 Mexican festivities at the Kent Senior Activity Center. "We had about 100 people." But while the assistance is appreciated, it underscores what has become a harsh reality for the nonprofit center. It paid to keep the facility operating for just one month.

King County monitoring Green River flows; minor flooding expected upstream of Auburn

King County officials continue to monitor the Green River Friday for flooding because of rainfall and releases of water from behind the Howard Hanson Dam. But only minor flooding is expected in the lower Mill Creek basin, and in rural areas of the Green River Valley without levees upstream of Auburn, according to King County.
