Kent-based Northwest Harvest teamed up with Delta Air Lines and the Seattle Seahawks to collect a hefty total of food donations for the hungry.
Sponsored by Delta Air Lines, Seahawks Tackle Hunger raised more than $34,000 and 3,200 pounds of food, with more than 2,000 pounds of soup donated by Campbell Soup. The total will provide more than 160,000 meals statewide.
At last Sunday’s game, Northwest Harvest staff and volunteers enjoyed pleasant temperatures and excited fans around the gates and in the stadium for the annual event, raising funds and food for the cause.
Northwest Harvest will distribute the much-needed food throughout the state. The funds raised will go toward ensuring a steady, nutritious supply of foods, fruits, and vegetables.
Washington ranks as the 22nd hungriest state, according to the United Stated Department of Agriculture. One in seven Washingtonians struggles with hunger.
“We’d like to thank Delta Air Lines, Campbell Soup, and the 12th Man for their generous donations,” said Jesse Swingle of Northwest Harvest. “This is a great example of businesses and communities giving back.”
Northwest Harvest is the only no-profit food bank distributor operating statewide in Washington, providing more than two million nutritious meals and support each month to a network of more than 370 food banks, meal programs and high-need schools.
