The Jennifer Beach Foundation (JNBF) provides advocacy, education and temporary assistance to the community addressing issues related to child abuse and domestic violence (DV).
JNBF advocacy and assistance include: professional counseling for victims/survivors of DV; assistance in creating client safety plans; cell phones; emergency financial assistance for shelter, clothing, food, transportation, and utilities; and referrals to other community resources that are available.
JNBF education programs include: Hope and Power: Financial Literacy for Survivors of DV, a course that covers budgeting, credit reporting, banking, savings, borrowing, insurance, housing, legal issues, educational opportunities and more; In Their Shoes, a role playing exercise designed to help teens identify abusive relationships where roles are based on actual life stories; and Kid’s Club, a program for children ages 6-11 that have been raised in a DV environment.
JNBF is registering people for the upcoming Kid’s Club and Hope and Power offerings. Kid’s Club is a safe place where the children can heal from their exposure to DV. Children are given age-appropriate information about abuse, have opportunities to talk about their own experiences and a chance to express themselves. The goal of the program is to decrease a child’s sense of isolation and teach skills that will help break the cycle of violence that they could perpetuate if not helped. Parents (custodial) will gain a better understanding of the impact of DV on their children and find ways to talk and listen to them. The classes are facilitated by a mental health therapist and a DV advocate.
Kid’s Club and Hope and Power classes are one evening each week for 10 weeks for two hours at a confidential location in South King County. Each is free, food is provided and transportation assistance is available.
JNBF hosts its annual Scramble for Safe Families Charity Golf Tournament to raise funds for next year’s operations. The event tees off at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn on Saturday, Sept. 17, starting at 1 p.m. For anyone that would like to help and contribute, JNBF is seeking sponsors and donations of merchandise or other items for the silent auction and raffle held afterward at the dinner event.
JNBF is a IRS 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization providing free DV services to the community since 2001.
