New season dawning: Seattle Thunderbirds release training-camp schedule

The Seattle Thunderbirds have just released the team’s training camp schedule for the upcoming season.

The Seattle Thunderbirds have just released the team’s training camp schedule for the upcoming season.

Training camp opens with prospects camp, which is slated for Thursday, Aug. 26, and will feature a scrimmage from 5-7 p.m. at the ShoWare Center. Two more scrimmages will follow on Aug. 27, the first from 8-10 a.m. at the ShoWare Center and the second from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Kent Valley Ice Centre.

The prospect camp concludes on Saturday, Aug. 28, with one final scrimmage, which will be held at the ShoWare Center from 10 a.m.-noon.

The T-Birds main training camp begins on Aug. 28, and will consist of three scrimmages and two practice sessions. The three scrimmages will run from 6-8:30 p.m. at the ShoWare Center on Aug. 28-29-30.

There will be two practice sessions on Sunday and Monday morning at the ShoWare Center. Each practice session will run from 9 a.m.-noon, and will consist of two separate on-ice player groups.

All scrimmages and practices at prospect camp and main camp are open to the public. The Hockey Store will also be open during all training camp scrimmages.

The Thunderbirds have an eight-game preseason schedule. They will play three games at the Everett Silvertips preseason tournament at Comcast Arena. The T-Birds play the Portland Winterhawks on Friday, Sept. 3 (11:30 a.m.), the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday, Sept. 4 (11:30 a.m.), and the Silvertips on Sunday, Sept. 5 (7 p.m.).

The T-Birds will then travel to Kennewick for three games at the Red Lion Hotels’ Preseason Tournament at the Toyota Center. On Thursday, Sept. 9, the T-Birds will face the Silvertips (3 p.m.), the Kootenay Ice on Friday, Sept. 10 (3 p.m.) and the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday, Sept. 11 (3 p.m.).

The T-Birds head back up to Everett to take on the Silvertips on Friday, Sept. 17 (7:35 p.m.) at Comcast Arena.

The exhibition schedule ends on Saturday, Sept. 18, when the T-Birds play host to the Portland Winterhawks (7:05 p.m.) at the ShoWare Center.

The T-Birds will open the regular season against the Everett Silvertips at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24 at Comcast Arena in Everett. The T-Birds will hold their home opener at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25 against rival Portland. The T-Birds will wrap up their opening weekend at 5 p.m. Sept. 26 in Kennewick against the Tri-City Americans.

T-Birds single game tickets for the 2010-11 season will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Aug. 25 online at the T-Birds Web site and at the ShoWare Center box office.

T-Birds season tickets are currently on sale. Season tickets can be purchased by calling the T-Birds office at 253-239-7825.
