Multiple 911 calls from neighbors helped Kent Police catch a burglary suspect who reportedly had entered a home where a young adult was home with four younger siblings.
Officers arrested a 27-year-old Redmond man for investigation of burglary and other related charges, according to a July 10 Kent Police statement. He was booked into the King County jail.
At about 9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 7 officers were dispatched to the 27500 block of 140th Avenue SE in response to a 911 call of a residential burglary in progress, according to police. Police said a young adult male caller home with four younger siblings could hear a suspect in their house.
The caller said his 11-year-old sibling had seen the suspect inside their home, ran upstairs and locked herself and her siblings inside a room, according to police.
Officers arrived and discovered the back slider to the home wide open. They searched the home, but the suspect had fled. Additional officers arrived to search the outside area for the suspect.
Multiple 911 calls from neighbors said they had either seen or heard a suspicious person in or around their home and property. They reported a suspect trespassing and hopping fences, according to police.
One caller said that a person was on their roof and had jumped off when seen. Officers arrived and located the man and took him into custody without incident. The original 911 caller reportedly identified the man as the suspect seen inside their home, according to police.
“We want to thank every community member who called 911 to report the suspect’s suspicious activities,” according to the police statement. “You don’t always know when you call 911 for suspicious behavior what is exactly happening. Sometimes it turns out to be something non-nefarious.
“In this case, those calls were critical and they directly assisted in locating and arresting this (reported) burglar.”
The neighborhood is south of SE 272nd Street and just northwest of Horizon Elementary School, 27641 144th Ave. SE.
