A 62-year-old Olympia man crashed while racing a motorcycle Sunday at Pacific Raceways, just east of Kent. The man later died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday while the man was doing practice laps, according to a King County Sheriff’s Office media release.
The man came out of a straightaway at high speed and into a curve, but lost control of his Honda CB950 as it began to slide on its side. The cycle left the roadway and collided with a tire barrier. The driver was airlifted to Harborview.
The event was sponsored by the Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association. The race was canceled and the track shut down immediately after the accident. The Sheriff’s Office was notified and major-accident detectives conducted the investigation.
Pacific Raceways is in unincorporated King County at 31001 144th Ave. S.E.
