A police chase of a motorcyclist speeding up to 100 mph last Wednesday evening on Kent’s East Hill ended with a crash of the bike, a foot pursuit and a fight between the man and a Washington State Patrol trooper.

The State Patrol arrested a 23-year-old Kent man for investigation of felony eluding and first-degree assault, according to a WSP media release.

The trooper sustained a broken left wrist and a sore left knee. He drove himself to a local hospital, said Christina Martin, spokeswoman for the State Patrol. The motorcyclist was treated at the scene for a few cuts and bruises.

The trooper, driving an unmarked patrol car, spotted a motorcyclist driving recklessly eastbound on Southeast 240th Street at the intersection of State Route 515, also known as 104th Avenue Southeast. The incident started at about 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 28.

The trooper followed the Kawasaki motorcycle as it began to pull wheelies. The rider then accelerated to speeds estimated at about 100 mph. The trooper activated his car’s emergency lights to begin pursuit.

The motorcycle eventually ended up back on State Route 515. The driver crashed the bike at the intersection of Southeast 208th Street.

The Kent man reportedly ignored the trooper’s command to stop, and fled on foot through several yards and over two fences.

A fight broke out when the trooper caught up to motorcyclist. The trooper used several Taser applications that had no effect on the man, who broke free from the trooper.

A Kent homeowner called 911 to report the trooper’s location. King County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the man in a nearby yard. Deputies were able to take him into custody after a short struggle.
