Kent Police arrested a man’s mother-in-law and his wife for investigation of fourth-degree assault for allegedly punching him in the face during a dispute.
Officers responded at about 1:15 p.m. Oct. 21 to a domestic dispute at a house in the 22200 block of 93rd Avenue South where a man was reportedly standing behind a Nissan Pathfinder to prevent it from leaving, according to the police report.
The man told police his mother-in-law and wife had come to his house to pick up his 1-year-old son that he shares with his wife. He told officers it made him mad that his mother-in-law was at his house so he yelled at her to leave and started to walk at her so she would back up into the yard.
The mother-in-law, who officers located in the driver’s seat of the Nissan Pathfinder, said she became upset that her son-in-law forced her to walk backward, so she punched him in the face, which caused his nose to bleed. The wife told police she became mad at her husband and punched him because he forced her to go inside to pick up their son.
The husband didn’t want to press charges against the mother-in-law, so officers initially released her after she had been handcuffed. But police later cited the woman at-large after officers determined it was a domestic violence household relationship that requires a mandatory arrest under state law.
Drunk driver runs red light
Officers arrested a man for investigation of DUI, reckless driving and possession of drugs after he reportedly ran a red light and swerved down a road at about 2:08 a.m. Oct. 20 while driving westbound on South 228th Street.
An officer on patrol saw a Isuzu box truck run the red light at 68th Avenue South, according to the police report. The officer noted he would have been hit by the truck if he had been several seconds ahead of his position southbound on 68th Avenue when the truck ran the light.
The officer pulled over the truck in the 6000 block of South 228th Street. He noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath and noted that the man had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. The driver, who denied running the red light, agreed to take field sobriety tests, which he failed.
When the officer searched the man, he discovered a plastic baggie with a white powder inside that later tested positive for 1.16 grams of cocaine.
Woman trespasses van to sleep
Police cited a woman for vehicle trespass after she reportedly spent the night sleeping in a van parked at a counseling office in the 500 block of West Harrison Street.
When a counseling office employee confronted the woman Oct. 22, she left the van to sleep in a makeshift box just outside the parking lot of the facility, according to the police report.
The woman told officers she’s a transient and it was cold outside so she decided to sleep in the van, which was unlocked. Nothing was missing from inside the vehicle. Police also banned the woman from the property.
Man slaps woman inside car
Officers arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly slapped a woman in the face during a dispute inside a vehicle at about 4:11 a.m. Oct. 22 near the Sounder Station, 301 Railroad Ave. N.
A woman told officers her sister’s boyfriend slapped her in the face, according to the police report. She had a cut upper lip. The man denied he slapped her and said she must have cut her lip hitting herself. He said the others in the vehicle forced him to get out of the car.
