In hopes of getting seventh-grade students interested in science and medicine, Kent’s Mill Creek Middle School hosted an engineering day on May 5.
During science class that day, seventh-graders attended one of four workshops led by graduate and undergraduate students from the University of Washington’s bioengineering program.
Topics were building a prosthetic, fun with DNA and genetically engineered machines, doctor for a day and diagnosing diseases. Students took part in hands-on activities including building a prosthetic legs using everyday objects, learning to tie sutures, operating an ultrasound machine and testing samples to diagnose disease.
