Memorial service held for Kent motorcyclist

Robert J. Groome, 26, of Kent, jumped on his motorcycle for a trip to the store when he somehow crashed into a parked vehicle and died in a July 11 accident on the East Hill.

Family and friends attended a memorial service for Groome on Saturday at Heavenly Sent Christian Ministries in Renton. A second service for Groome is scheduled for September in Brooklyn Park, Minn., where he was raised. He served for six years as a radiology technician in the U.S. Army, according to the Facebook page of his sister Sam Groome.

Groome will be buried in September at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Officers responded to the crash at about 3:45 a.m. in the 27400 block of 145th Avenue Southeast, just south of Lake Meridian.

Groome worked as a radiology technician in the Seattle area, according to his obituary posted on Kent’s Marlatt Funeral Home website. He was on a routine trip to the store when he crashed.

Survivors include his parents Leslie and Richard, his sister Samantha and his best friend Yavan Harper.

“Ever since he could speak he was a kind a generous person, putting others needs before his own and going out of his way to help others,” his sister wrote on Facebook. “He would often buy things for his friends and family, even if he had less money than they did, because he wanted to make them happy and see them smile.”

To help cover funeral expenses, Sam Groome started an account at gofundme.com/robert-groome-endoflife-expenses.
