A woman fatally shot May 9 in an unincorporated part of King County near Kent and Auburn has been identified.
Brenda Matchett, 56, died from a gunshot wound of the torso and the manner of death is homicide, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
At about 12:53 a.m., a man called 911 to report his girlfriend had been shot at South 277th Street and Green River Road South, according to an email from Sgt. Eric White, public information officer for the King County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded and found a deceased woman at the location, White said.
“There is no suspect information or motive in this shooting,” White said.
White declined to give any other details about the shooting, such as where at the location she was found and whether the boyfriend remained at the scene. He also didn’t say whether she was found near an homeless encampment. The area has attracted many homeless encampments.
“As this incident is still an active and open investigation we are not able to release any further information,” White said in a May 12 email.
