Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke will highlight the city’s accomplishments over the last year and present her plans to build a stronger community from an economic, transportation and neighborhood standpoint during her annual State of the City address.
Cooke will give her speech at the Kent Chamber of Commerce membership luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the ShoWare Center, 625 W. James St.
The event is open to the public. Tickets are $30 and includes lunch. Chamber members get in for $20. There is no charge for people who wish to attend but not eat lunch. Everyone is required to register at KentChamber.com or by calling 253-854-1770.
“The State of the City is a great chance for all to hear a review of the major actions of the city in 2013, and receive a preview of what’s coming in the new year,” Cooke said in a media release. “I’ll highlight the challenges ahead from budget and finance, to sustainability, to the delivery of core services. Our city is breaking through the worst recession in recent times, and we have a great opportunity to start new, work together and produce real results that move our economy and our community forward.”
Voters re-elected Cooke in November to a third four-year term. She has said this will be her final term.
“The Kent Chamber of Commerce is proud to work with Mayor Cooke on her State of the City address,” said Andrea Keikkala, executive director of the Kent Chamber. “This event is a great opportunity for the community to come together to hear what the mayor’s vision is for our city. The Chamber has a long and successful relationship with Mayor Cooke and we look forward to continuing this partnership to ensure Kent stays competitive in our regional and global economy.”
The speech will be taped for later viewing on Comcast Channel 21 and online at KentTV21.com.
