Law enforcement officials soon will transfer Shawn David Gulseth from a California jail to King County to face a first-degree murder charge in connection with the stabbing death of his girlfriend at a Kent apartment.
Gulseth, 40, of Kent, waived an extradition hearing Thursday in Mendocino County, Calif., according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. He will receive a King County Superior Court arraignment date once he has returned to Washington.
“Waiving extradition” means that a suspect agrees to go with authorities from another jurisdiction willingly, thus making an extradition hearing unnecessary.
California police agencies arrested Gulseth Jan. 11
Kent Police had been searching for Gulseth as a suspect in the death of Bonnie Peterson, 45, since officers found her body Dec. 21 at the Village at Lake Meridian apartments on the East Hill.
Gulseth was in custody Thursday at the Mendocino County jail in Ukiah, Calif. Bail was set at $1.5 million. Bail will remain at $1.5 million when he is jailed in King County.
