Kent Police arrested a man for investigation of harassment with a threat to kill after he reportedly told his estranged wife to leave her apartment with him or he would shoot her.
Several officers responded to The Village at Lake Meridian Apartments, 10905 SE 256th St., at about 10:54 p.m. on Sept. 21 after reports of a man with a gun making death threats, according to the police report.
Officers saw the man sitting on steps near the apartment. Two officers grabbed the man and told him to put his hands behind his back, but the man ignored the commands. An officer punched the man in the neck several times but he continued to resist.
Three officers managed to get the man on the ground, but he still struggled with them. Because of the man’s resistance and the fact that he had a gun, an officer noted he kicked the man’s body. That didn’t stop the man either. Finally, after an officer punched the man twice in the face while yelling at him to put his hands behind his back, police were able to handcuff him.
Officers found a .22-caliber pistol on the right side of the man’s waistband. There was no bullet in the chamber, but the firearm had a loaded magazine.
The couple is legally separated. The husband showed up at his wife’s apartment and asked her to come with him, but she refused. She told him he was intoxicated. The man then displayed the gun in his waistband and told her he would shoot her if she didn’t leave. Witnesses called 911.
The husband told police he was going to Mexico as soon as he gets out of jail.
Man caught with drug items
Officers arrested a man for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia and a Kent warrant for criminal trespass after police spotted him at about 5:09 p.m. on Sept. 21 near the Cash America Pawn shop in the 23200 block of Pacific Highway South.
An officer patrolled the area because of numerous complaints to police about rampant drug use in the business park where the pawn shop is located, according to the police report. The officer knew about a hidden stairway near the shop where drug users like to go. He saw a man smoking something near the stairway.
The man began to walk away, but stopped at the officer’s command. He said he was just smoking a cigarette. The officer checked the man’s record and a criminal trespass warrant came up. When police searched the man, they reportedly found foil with black burn streaks and a straw known as a “tooter.” Both items are used to smoke heroin, the officer noted in his report.
Man punches girlfriend in face
Police cited a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face and dragged her along the floor by her mouth.
The incident occurred at about 9:08 p.m. on Sept. 22 at a home in the 20800 block of 109th Lane Southeast, according to the police report. The boyfriend also threw the woman into a pantry door and onto a living room table.
The boyfriend had left when police arrived. Officers could not find him. Several officers responded to the scene because of a history of calls to the address for disputes between a man and a woman. The boyfriend had a felony warrant for escape from the state Department of Corrections and had a caution attached to his warrant for being a violent offender and having prior gang ties.
