Kent Police arrested a 33-year-old Kent man for a reported assault and attempted rape at the Hottie Shots Espresso stand.

Police arrested the man Wednesday morning at his workplace in the 6800 block of South 190th Street, according to a Kent Police news release. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police received multiple tips identifying the suspect after the release of a video from the espresso stand as well as a description of the man. Officers responded at about 4:45 a.m. Tuesday to Hottie Shots Espresso stand, 21237 84th Ave. S., after a report of an assault and attempted rape.

The barista worker, a 30-year-old Bonney Lake resident, reported that the assailant came to the coffee stand window on foot and ordered a drink, according to a Kent Police news release. She said while she was distracted making his drink, he climbed in through the window and held her at knifepoint.

The man proceeded to force her out of the stand and to a dark alleyway on the property just to the northwest of the barista stand. During his attempt to sexually assault her, he was spooked by the vehicle headlights of a customer that pulled into the drive-through stand. Subsequently, the assailant fled from the area possibly within a dark sedan with black rims that was seen in the area just prior to the incident.

The barista worker was treated by medics for abrasions on her body which were sustained during the incident. She was said to be shook up, but otherwise in good condition.

The suspect has an extensive criminal history, according to police. As of Wednesday, investigators had not released his name as he has not yet been formally charged.

“We want to thank everyone that called in and identified this violent offender – our streets are safer because of each of you,” said Detective Melanie Robinson.
