Kent Police received as many as five 911 calls from people about a man pounding on apartment doors, yelling at people and swinging a baseball bat.
Officers arrested the man for investigation of harassment after responding at about 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 12 to the La Mirage Apartments, 25829 113th Ave. SE, according to the police report.
Five officers responded to the incident because of reports that the man had a baseball bat, threatened an apartment complex employee and chased children in the parking lot. The man reportedly knocked on doors all night.
One woman told police the man pounded on her door and said “I am going to keep knocking and am not going to get out of here today.” The woman said she didn’t know the man.
The sister of the man told officers she had just picked up her brother from another sister’s home in California the day before and brought him to Kent.
An apartment complex employee told police he saw the man with the bat and confronted him, but ended up locking himself in a nearby building because he feared what the man might do. The man also reportedly ran at several children, but didn’t have the bat when he ran and yelled at them.
Police took the man into custody without incident, but inside the police vehicle he began to kick and punch the divider between the front and back seats. Officers transported the man to the city jail. Inside a holding cell, the man screamed he wanted to die and that he was going to kill himself.
Man tussles with officers
Police arrested a man for investigation of obstructing an officer after a verbal dispute between the man and his brother at about 8:51 p.m. on Dec. 9 at an apartment.
The incident occurred at the Aspen Grove Apartments, 26339 116th Ave. SE, according to the police report.
When officers arrived in response to a 911 call about a domestic dispute inside the apartment, a man answered the door and refused to let police inside. An officer initially had a foot inside the door but moved it when he thought the man was going to open the door. Instead, the man slammed the door shut.
Because officers thought a possible domestic violence incident occurred inside, two officers kicked down the door to force it open. The door fell on the man who had denied entry to the police.
Officers took the door off the man and ordered him to put his hands behind his back. The man reportedly failed to comply with the order. An officer used a flashlight to strike the man twice in the leg in an effort to get his hands behind his back. The officer then struck the man twice more in the leg with the flashlight before officers managed to handcuff him.
People inside the apartment denied anything physical occurred between the brothers.
Man pushes woman
Officers cited a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly shoved a female employee on Dec. 12 at her Green River College office at Kent Station, 417 Ramsay Way.
Officers responded to a report of a former acquaintance who had shown up and harassed a woman employee at the campus, according to the police report.
The man reportedly told the woman he was a schizophrenic, had sexual fantasies about her and used a fake name to meet her. The man was not a student or employee at the college.
The man reportedly pushed the woman outside of her office after a short meeting inside the office. A fellow employee helped get the man away from the woman and to leave the campus.
Police tried to contact the man by phone and left him a voice mail, but the man didn’t return a call, so officers cited him at large.
