A man in his 20s was shot and injured in Kent after an altercation at about 1 p.m. Sunday in the 22400 block of Benson Road on the East Hill.

Paramedics transported the man to a hospital with possible life-threatening injuries, according to a Kent Police media release. Several people witnessed the altercation and gunshots but the reason for the dispute remains to be determined.

The man was shot in the lower torso after confronting another man he knew who lived in the area. The two men argued before the one man fired several shots.

Police identified the shooting suspect as Wendall Oliver Adams Jr., 26, a black man who is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds. He fled on foot after the shooting and has not yet been found. He was wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts and a gray hooded sweatshirt. He carried a black handgun.

Adams is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about Adams should call 911 or the Kent Police at 253-856-5808.

As of Wednesday, police had not yet found Adams and the shooting victim remained hospitalized.

The first officer on the scene of the shooting immediately administered first aid to the man until paramedics could stabilize the victim so he could be transported to the hospital.

“A quick response by our patrol and detective units assisted us with not only providing medical aid to the victim, but obtaining vital information to assist our continuing efforts to locate this suspect,” Sgt. Jarod Kasner said.

Kasner said the shooting is not gang related.
