A 22-year-old Tacoma man faces robbery, assault and other charges after a wild, three-vehicle carjacking spree that started in Kent, continued in Bellevue and Seattle, and ended in Renton.
King County prosecutors charged Maar Teng Rambang Nov. 9 with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and second-degree identity theft for the Nov. 7 incidents, according to court documents.
Rambang remains in custody at the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle with bail set at $500,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 23 at the King County Courthouse in Seattle.
There is not a specific charge for carjacking, so that crime is charged as first-degree robbery, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
The charges are connected to the Seattle carjacking. Rambang allegedly shot a man in the leg at a parking garage in the 2300 block of Eastlake Avenue East at about 12:54 p.m., according to court documents. Rambang then took the man’s white 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The man told Seattle Police his Jeep can be tracked via Sirius XM, a satellite radio subscription. Sirius XM provided police with a GPS location of the Jeep at 6331 S. 212th St., in Kent.
Kent Police responded to that location, which includes a Wendy’s restaurant and a Shell gas station. Officers located the vehicle near 64th Avenue South and South 212th Street but the driver refused to stop.
Police pursued the Jeep for about 5 miles before using a precision immobilization technique (PIT maneuvered stop) to disable the vehicle at 4509 Talbot Road S. Officers took Rambang into custody. Officers found a 9mm firearm in his right jacket pocket, according to court documents. The gun was loaded and had a bullet in the chamber, ready to fire. The gun had been reported stolen in 2018 to Kirkland Police.
Further investigation revealed that Rambang reportedly started his carjacking spree at about 11:44 a.m. in Kent on the East Hill. A woman had her Toyota sedan stolen when she was still in the driver’s seat parked at the U.S. Postal Service parking lot, 10612 SE 240th St.
Rambang allegedly opened the driver’s door and told her to get out of the car or he would shoot her, according to charging papers.
Rambang then reportedly drove to the Bellevue Square Mall, abandoned the Toyota and carjacked a black BMW at about 12:30 p.m. Rambang drove to Seattle where he abandoned the BMW and took the Jeep. He shot the driver after he refused to exit the Jeep.
While stopped in Kent, Rambang allegedly used a credit card of the Seattle man for purchases at the Shell station and Wendy’s.
When police stopped the Jeep in Renton, officers found a Wendy’s receipt for a medium combo sandwich and beverage, according to court documents. They also found the food and drink. The receipt showed the Seattle man’s credit card had been used to purchase the meal.
Detectives found a backpack in the Jeep that had three loaded 9mm magazines, loose ammunition and two 9mm fired cartridge casings, according to court documents.
According to court records, Rambang has six prior felony convictions in Spokane County Superior Court in 2019 for six counts of second-degree theft.
