A man was injured when his Kent home caught fire in the 11800 block of Southeast 192 Street on Sunday afternoon.

The fire was initially dispatched at 2 p.m. as a “minor fire” but was upgraded to a full “residential fire” response by the fire department as more information was gathered from a neighbor who first called 911, the Kent Regional Fire Authority reported.

When firefighters from the Kent and Renton RFAs arrived, they found smoke coming from the first floor of the two-story house. Concerned that a person might be in the home, firefighters immediately entered and were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

The man, who was not seriously injured, was able to escape the fire safely on his own. He was the only one home, officials said.

The cause of the fire was an unattended candle that ignited nearby combustibles.

According to the incident report, there were working smoke alarms in the house.
