Kent Police are still trying to determine how a vehicle went over an Scenic Hill embankment and killed a 64-year-old man.
Henry Mayrhofer, of Kent, died from multiple blunt force injuries, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police responded at about 3:45 p.m. Sunday to a report of a vehicle over the embankment at Reiten Road and East Guiberson Street, according to an email from Kent Police spokesman Jarod Kasner.
“Officers arrived and located the vehicle with an unresponsive subject inside,” Kasner said. “With the help of (Puget Sound) Fire, they were able to stabilize the vehicle enough so (firefighters) could then extricate the subject inside. Once on solid ground the subject was pronounced deceased.”
Kasner said it is unknown how the vehicle went over the cliff.
“Traffic investigators continue to gather and process evidence to determine the sequence of events that resulted in this accident,” he said.
Friends and relatives of Mayrhofer started an account on GoFundme.com to raise money for expenses.
“Impound fees alone from this have already reached over $800 in just four days,” said Chelsey Hughes about her uncle on the GoFundMe page. “We are asking anyone out there who can, to help us out in any way possible. Even the smallest of donations will go so far for all of us. Please keep us all in your hearts as we work to heal from this. Even kind words of hope and love is appreciated.”
Hughes shared thoughts about Mayrhofer on the posting.
“He was a father, a grandfather, a brother, an uncle, and above all, a friend,” she said. “He was the kind of person you could count on to have your back at any moment. He had the personality of a bulldog, but a genuine heart of gold.
“Our family is suffering this huge loss during the holidays, a time when we need our family most. This Christmas just wasn’t the same without him. His children, and all of our family, are in so much pain following all of this. Our whole family feels broken, this was not the Christmas any of us had expected. But these are the cards we have been dealt. We have come together now stronger than ever, but we still need some help, like everyone does out there.”
Mayrhofer went to Chief Sealth International High School in Seattle and studied at Pierce College in Puyallup, according to his Facebook page. He also had worked at Redmond-based Sequoyah Electric.
