A quiet evening turned into a night of gunfire at about 8:10 p.m. Oct. 25 at a Kent apartment complex in the 1600 block of West James Place.
Kent Police arrested a 20-year-old man for investigation of reckless endangerment after he reportedly fired a 45-caliber handgun several times while chasing another man through the parking lot at the apartment complex, according to the police report.
The man did not tell police the reasons he fired the gun.
Several people called 911 to report shots being fired. One witness stood near his vehicle in the parking lot when he saw a man fire a gun at another man.
Officers found the man, who reportedly fired the gun, walking near the apartment complex. The officers did not find a gun.
Two shots hit an apartment occupied by a 38-year-old man. One shot hit the outside of the apartment. The second shot entered the apartment and ended up in a closet. The apartment resident told police he was watching television when he heard the gunshots. He was not injured.
A couple of other bullets left holes in two vehicles parked at the apartment complex. Nobody was in the vehicles during the shooting.
Witnesses indicated that a second man may have fired a second gun as well, but police did not find that man.
Assault
Police arrested a 47-year-old man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly slapped, kicked and punched his 41-year-old girlfriend during a dispute at about 8:15 a.m. Oct. 22 at a home in the 24200 block of 39th Avenue South.
The girlfriend told officers that her boyfriend slapped her face twice and kicked her the previous night, according to the police report.
The woman told police the next morning she had a swollen face and did not want to go to a scheduled job interview. She said that made her boyfriend upset, so he slapped her bottom five times. He also punched her in the chest as she held her 2-year-old child. She said she remained at her boyfriend’s house because she had nowhere else to go.
The boyfriend admitted to officers that he slapped his girlfriend in the face. He said he became upset with her because he had recently lost his job, he was about to lose his house and she was not helping out with finances.
Theft
A 20-year-old man allegedly tried to steal a sweater by shoving it down his pants during an incident Oct. 22 at a store in the 25400 block of 104th Avenue Southeast.
Store security saw the man take a sweater, remove the security device and shove the sweater down the front of his pants, according to the police report.
Police arrested the man for investigation of theft and for possession of marijuana.
Security stopped the man after he exited the store with no attempt to pay for the sweater, valued at $80.
The man admitted to officers that he took the sweater. When police searched the man, they reportedly found a plastic baggie with marijuana in the man’s pockets.
Drugs
Officers decided to investigate a car they spotted parked in the dark on a grass area at about 8:11 p.m. Oct. 23 in the 24800 block of Frager Road South.
They talked to the two men in the car and found out each had admitted to smoking marijuana, according to the police report.
Officers arrested a 25-year-old man for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia. Police also arrested a 44-year-old man for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police found a pipe on the younger man during a search. The man admitted he had smoked marijuana out of the pipe a couple of hours earlier.
The older man also had a pipe and told police he had just started to smoke the marijuana in the pipe when the officers walked up to the car. He told police he had bought the marijuana earlier in the evening for $20 after he left work.
