A 19-year-old Kent man suffered a head injury after he was hit by a vehicle Feb. 5 while walking across SE Kent Kangley Road (aka SE 272nd Street).
The man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He had “a significant head injury,” according to a Feb. 7 email from Kent Police Deputy Chief Matt Stansfield.
Firefighters and medics responded at about 7:12 a.m. to SE 272nd Street and 132nd Avenue SE, according to an email from Puget Sound Fire spokesperson Pat Pawlak. The collision was on westbound SE 272nd Street.
Paramedics and firefighters treated the man before he was airlifted from Puget Sound Fire Station 75, 15635 SE 272nd St., Pawlak said.
“The pedestrian was crossing SE Kent-Kangley Road in a crosswalk at the intersection of 132nd Avenue SE,” Stansfield said. “Multiple witnesses reported the pedestrian failed to obey the pedestrian control signal and began to cross in a southbound direction on a red ‘Do not walk’ signal.”
A westbound vehicle on SE Kent-Kangley Road entered the intersection on a green light and struck the pedestrian after he reportedly crossed into the vehicle’s lane of travel, Stansfield said.
The vehicle was driven by a 55-year-old woman, a resident of unincorporated Kent in King County.
“The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with police during the investigation,” Stansfield said.
